Biography of Robert Scott
I qualified as a solicitor in 1991 having obtained an honours degree in law from Kingston Upon Thames and my professional qualifications at Guildford Law School. My training contract was completed at Anstey Sargent & Probert in Exeter, moving on qualifying to Every & Phillips in East Devon (now Everys Solicitors). I remained with that firm for 20 years, for the majority of that time as a partner, later heading up the firm’s litigation department and running offices in Exmouth and Exeter.
In 2011, after a brief period as a partner with London and international firm Trowers & Hamlin, I joined as a partner at Kitsons in Exeter, where I remained until 2014. Joining Nunn Rickard as a consultant and civil litigation specialist in 2014, I continue to manage my own caseload and service a long established client base with the aid of other fee earners but in particular my assistant Tania Bage.
From the very early days of being a ‘jack of all trades’ I have specialised for over 20 years in civil and commercial litigation, conducting and resolving a wide range of disputes for both private individuals and businesses. I prefer to conduct matters personally, bringing more than two decades of knowledge and experience to bear on client’s problems. This personal service extends to dealing with the majority of my own advocacy as well as conducting matters at mediation and arbitration.
Whilst I have for many years dealt with substantial volumes of personal injury, professional negligence, neighbour and property disputes, breach of contract and other compensation cases, also handle and have handled successfully many Inheritance disputes, and Intellectual Property matters. I accept instructions in matters ranging from the small claims court to million pound disputes and have successfully recovered compensation for clients above and beyond their expectations.
In terms of style I provide honest and no-nonsense appraisal and advice throughout. I seek to take the stress of litigation away from the client as much as possible, maintain regular communication and empathy with the client’s needs and understanding. I believe very firmly in charging no more than a fair and affordable price, providing estimates and seeking to agree fixed prices where possible.
On a personal level I was born and grew up in Barnstaple, have lived in the Exeter area for the last 27 years with my wife and two daughters. I have an avid interest in sport including Rugby, Cricket and Golf, enjoy running and history. Having recently completed an Open University History Degree in my spare time, I have just completed the third of a series of historical novels.
